OUTREACH 25-26
Mentoring FLL
Some of our newer team members that came directly from FLL go to mentor the current FLL team at our school twice a week. While there, our mentors help the team with learning how to code their robot, using pseudocode to code their robot, making attachments for their robot, building a robot, creating and coming up with an innovation project, and creating presentations.
Global Outreach
We are proposing a “Camp in a Box” that could be distributed to schools in Nicaragua and the Philippines; Las Flores, Papayo #2, and Vinisitahan National High School. These boxes would include all the necessary supplies to conduct a camp/class/club about things like how block code works, how to code a robot using block code, and how to use the robot to complete an activity, like a maze.
Track Or Treat
Every year, Botman hosts a table at our school’s annual track or treat, held on Halloween. Track or Treat is for our lower schoolers, who walk around the track in their costumes, collecting candy from tables hosted by upper school clubs. We bring Spike Kits and a Lego robot, that they can drive, to get kids interested and excited about the FLL team.
Hosting Fll / ftc
We hosted both the FLL and FTC tournaments at our school on 1/17 and 1/18. We hosted a total of 28 teams for FTC, and 20 teams for FLL, and both competitions were held at the Middle School/Lower School side. Each team member spent around 25 hours in total for hosting the tournament weekend, including volunteer/training hours, and setup/cleaning.
Club Fair
Each year, our robotics team takes an active role in our school’s Open House Night, using this event as a key opportunity to introduce students and families to the world of FIRST Robotics and spark interest in STEM. We host a table to discuss what it’s like being on a robotics team and answer any questions interested students may have.
